Portinatx

The northern tip

Portinatx

The last village before the lighthouse at the top of the island. Three small beaches in a sheltered bay, pine cliffs on both sides and the quietest water on Ibiza when the south wind blows.

The short answer

Portinatx is at the northern tip of Ibiza, 30 km and about 40 minutes by car from Ibiza Town, in the municipality of Sant Joan. It is a small family resort with three sandy coves (S'Arenal Gros, S'Arenal Petit and Playa Es Port), the Punta Moscarter lighthouse walk and sea caves along the coast that kayak and paddle tours visit. There is no ferry here, so you arrive by car or bus.

The village sits around a deep bay with three beaches: S'Arenal Gros is the main one, S'Arenal Petit the small one to the east, and Playa Es Port the sheltered one at the bottom of the bay. The coastal path east leads in about 40 minutes to the Punta Moscarter lighthouse, the tallest in the Balearics at 52 metres. The cliffs on both sides hide sea caves that the kayak tours in the catalogue paddle into.

It is the furthest point from the airport, which is exactly why families and couples who want quiet choose it. With a car you reach Benirras for the Sunday drums, Cala Xarraca, Sant Joan village and the north coast coves in 10 to 20 minutes.
