Times and fares are indicative for a normal day. In August the road out of the airport and the entrance to Ibiza town both slow down in the evening, so add 15 minutes to anything you plan between 19:00 and 22:00.
When the island flies
Ibiza is one of the most seasonal airports in Spain. From May to October the arrivals board reads like a map of Europe, with direct flights most days from the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Ireland. From November to April most of that pauses and the island connects through the mainland, with Barcelona, Madrid, Palma and Valencia running all year. If you are planning a winter trip, look at a connection in Barcelona or Palma before assuming there is no way in.
Peak, shoulder and winter
July and August are the expensive weeks in the air and on the ground, and the same seat can cost several times what it costs in May. June and September keep the sea warm and the routes direct while the fares fall, which is why the desk books most of its guests then. In April and October the price swings hard from one day to the next, so a flexible date is worth more than an early booking.

Taxi fares are metered and indicative, with supplements for the airport and for luggage. Taxis queue at arrivals and the wait gets long on an August afternoon when several flights land together. For four or more people with luggage a booked car is calmer and rarely much dearer.
The ferry to Formentera
Formentera has no airport and no bridge, so every visitor arrives by sea. The fast ferries leave from the port in Ibiza town, beside the old town, and reach La Savina in about 30 minutes. In summer they run through the day and into the evening, in winter the timetable thins out. Book the crossing once you know your landing time and not before, because a delayed flight and a fixed ferry ticket is the one combination that ruins a first day.
Most car hire contracts do not allow the car to travel to Formentera, so read the paperwork before you plan to take it across. Bikes, scooters and small cars are rented in La Savina on arrival, and a private boat from Ibiza is the other way over.

In July and August the queue at the desk is real, and the cheapest quote is rarely the one with the shortest wait. How long is the transfer from Ibiza airport to Ibiza town?
